Our Irish racing expert Johnny Ward takes aim at an exciting card at Galway, headlined by the feature €270,000 Tote Galway Plate. Enjoy every moment live on Racing TV and Racing TV Extra.
Day three at my home track features the historic Galway Plate, in which I've one pick, and I have saved another for the level later on.
Be lucky.
High-class handicap chases are not my cup of tea for bets but one can make an exception here.
The positives for Cape Gentleman are many: he's trained by Emmet Mullins, finished placed in the Galway Hurdle, has the class and stamina on the Flat and has a really eye-catching chase win to his name, when Troytown winner Run Wild Fred and his stablemate Noble Yeats were well-beaten. If he can get into a jumping rhythm he looks the best-treated of these.
I am surprised at how big this filly has been put in.
She is well-bred and beat 15 horses on her debut in March, the winner none other than Tuesday. After winning her maiden back at Naas she was sent off favourite in a strong handicap at Gowran won by the well-handicapped Night Of Romance. She did well to finish fifth after being squeezed from both sides coming out of the stalls.
Her trainer won this race twice around a decade ago - and he hasn't gone away, you know.
