Top analyst Angus McNae shares his four best bets for the first meeting of the season at Meydan, live on Racing TV!
2.05 Meydan : Vino Sauro
Jamie Osborne can get his Middle east campaign off to the perfect start with Vino Sauro. This horse showed plenty of promise on debut at Southwell for Richard Fahey and has joined the Osborne team with a
Meydan campaign in mind.
He is bred for the dirt and meets a poor bunch in a maiden that will not take much winning. A wide draw in stall 10 is of some concern, but would be much more concerning in a more competitive heat.
3.15 Meydan : Ezaj
Ezaj impressed when easily landing a
Meydan handicap on his penultimate start last season and, off a 5lb higher mark, still looks well treated.
He disappointed on his final start of the season and has not been seen since, but if he returns in good form, he looks sure to go well at a track that he has run well at on a number of occasions.
Not many of his opponents have the same handicapping scope as him.
3.50 Meydan: Arigatou Gozaimasu
This filly has only had five starts and has already shown plenty of promise. She was an excellent second in the UAE Oaks where she displayed plenty of early pace before being collared close home.
Her subsequent defeat came over an inadequate six furlongs and she steps back up in trip today, and looks set to dominate this field from stall 4.
This is her first run in a handicap off a workable mark of 92 in a weak race.
5.00 Meydan: Exculpation
Exculpation has uninspiring form figures, but they are courtesy of him keeping better company and he is worth following on his first start in a handicap.
He was thought good enough to contest the Listed Al Bastakiya last season after winning a maiden at Jebel Ali, and a mark of 77 could underestimate him in this.
