1.55 Sandown: Beautiful Crown
Beautiful Crown has won off a 4lb higher mark than the one he runs off here, so he has form to suggest he could still be very well in, even after his two recent wins.
The victory off a rating of 74 came when he was a three-year-old with Brett Johnson, but after that he spent two years in steady decline, and he's now moved to trainer Jack Jones.
The selection was absent for nine months before he reappeared at Lingfield in June on his first start for Jones where he bolted up after being backed off the boards.
He won under a penalty at Chepstow a week later where he was again well supported and it is the money that has come for Beautiful Crown that suggests he might be back to his previous best, or even be an improved performer.
Jockey Eireann Cagney did me a favour when guiding the very well backed
to victory at
a few days ago and was aboard Beautiful Crown at Chepstow, so I have plenty of confidence in the jockey booking here.
5.25 Sandown: Aikhal
This is quite a step down from the heady days when this gelding won a Group Three for Aidan O’Brien, but there are signs he may still be good enough to outclass these.
has run three times this season and after disappointing at Newbury, he didn’t get the race run to suit at
but then stayed on well over 12 furlongs at Goodwood last time out when beaten less than three lengths behind some in-form horses.
The Galileo gelding looks like he will be very well suited by this trip and the booking of Tom Marquand definitely adds to the expectation of a good run.
6.00 Beverley: Digital
had spent a couple of seasons in the wilderness but has finally come back to winning form off a mark in the low 70’s.
He won narrowly at Hamilton and threw in a stinker at
before finishing a very strong second to the in-form Jordan Electrics (who has already won again since).
The York run is obviously a worry but it does look as though
is back in good form, and his mark is obviously a winnable one.
He should be able to hold a prominent position in this handicap as there isn’t much pace drawn inside of him, and I expect him to be hanging on at the finish.
