Betting expert Dave Nevison was among the winners on Tuesday has three fancies at Pontefract, including one who is seeking a sixth course success. Watch all the action on Racing TV.
3.50 Pontefract: Global Spirit
By definition, this Veterans’ Handicap that is not likely to have any up-and-coming improvers in it, but the in-form Global Spirit appeals as being well-handicapped.
He runs off a mark below his latest win, which came over this course and distance only four runs ago and in a grade slightly higher than this.
He came back to good form on his latest start when second at Ripon in a more competitive event than this. And with Hollie Doyle a strong booking, he has a solid chance against a collection of familiar rivals.
4.50 Pontefract: Melody King
If he can start well enough and hold his place early, then Melody King might well be able to capitalise on some promising recent efforts.
This is very much a” who’s turn is it today?” handicap but finishing fourth in similar events on his past two runs, particularly when narrowly beaten at Beverley last time, suggest his turn is nearby.
Melody King hit winning form in August last year, including off a 3lb higher mark than on Wednesday so looks to be following a similar path. John Quinn’s team of mainly handicappers have been in excellent form since mid-July.
5.20 Pontefract: Corinthia Knight
There are not many sprint handicappers who run this track better than Corinthia Knight, who has already scored here twice this season.
In total, he has won five times here and even after his two recent wins he is still considerably lower in the ratings than this time last year. He has a good draw and Hollie Doyle is seeking a sixth success on him.
