2.00 Wetherby: Little Heron
I put this horse in my Racing TV tracker when she finished a good fourth on debut over a mile at Kempton and now that she steps up in trip to 10 furlongs, with that experience behind her I expect her to win.
That was a slowly run contest and she had to do all her running from a poor position at the back of the field. She raced in 12th and then posted the second fastest final quarter-mile in the race to finish fourth.
There is plenty of stamina on the dams side of the pedigree suggesting she will improve for this trip, and she is a solid selection.
3.00 Wetherby: Gunlock
This horse was an impressive winner when he scooted home at Newcastle on just his second career start and he is open to plenty of improvement.
He won eased down by a length and a half that day and providing he handles the turf as well as he did the tapenade at Newcastle, he looks sure to run well.
Clifford Lee takes over from an apprentice and Karl Burke has his team in good form, so he should win.
3.30 Wetherby: Leap Day
This usually consistent gelding proved to be a disappointment at Southwell last time out but that was in a Class 3 contest and he drops back in grade to a Class 5 here.
Prior to that recent defeat, he had run well in finishing second on a couple of occasions at Newcastle. Whilst his recent form is on the all-weather, he does have some form on turf and has handled soft conditions well in the past.
He looks to have a good chance for the in-form Tim Easterby team.
5.15 Wetherby: Flowering
This filly looks ready to strike after a good run at Beverley over an inadequate 10 furlongs last time out. She has already shown that she is effective over 12 furlongs and the step up in trip here to 14 furlongs looks to be a good move.
If you add to the extra distance here the fact that she was a bit unlucky at Beverley last time out when hampered two furlongs out, then her chance in this handicap looks to be a good one, providing the quick turnaround doesn’t catch her out.
