Dave Nevison, Martin Dixon, Johnny Ward, Andy Stephens and Harry Allwood share a selection each for the action across Kempton, and the on Saturday.
2.05 Kempton: Kamboo
Tipster: Dave Nevison.
Best odds: 15-8.
Few of the runners in this long established 2m handicap have a potential upside to them but Kamboo is an exception and has to be the selection.
Richard Hughes has his string in mighty form for the start of the Flat season proper and had winners at both all-weather meetings on Thursday.
He has telegraphed that Kanboo is fancied by booking William Buick to ride. That won’t help with his price but will definitely improve the four-year-old’s chances
Kamboo is stepping up half a mile in trip but he’s bred to be a stayer and the move up to a longer distance is probably overdue. Moreover, he has been gelded and had a wind operation since we last saw him in action.
He is clearly better suited by an artificial surface and has won two out of three starts, including at Kempton, but has barely beaten a runner in admittedly strong races on turf.
3.00 Doncaster: Botanical
Tipster: Andy Stephens.
Best odds: 7-2.
The William Hill Doncaster Mile could well develop into a duel between Liberty Lane and Botanical, both owned by Sheikh Mohammed Obaid Al Maktoum.
Liberty Lane, winner of the Cambridgeshire, carries the first colours of his owner and is favourite, but he disappointed when well-fancied for the Lincoln on his return at this meeting last year and that’s a niggle.
By contrast, Botanical was superb first time out last season – when winning easily at the Dante meeting – and, bar one blip on fast ground at Royal Ascot, has done nothing but progress.
He wound up last season by finishing runner-up in the John Smith’s Cup, off a rating of 107, before being touched off in a Listed contest at Goodwood. The five-year-old stays ten furlongs well but a mile on a softish surface should be no issue for him.
3.15 Kempton: Shuwari
Tipster: Martin Dixon.
Best odds: 4-1.

A lof of the fillies in this Listed event look to be hunting black type in a race that lacks depth beyond the front end of the market - only three of the field are rated in excess of 100 - and although Shuwari has a long absence to overcome, having missed last season due to injury, she's a filly I loved as a two-year-old and at a general price of 7-2 I'm happy to back her to turn over the short-priced favourite Soprano.
That pair have met before, with Shuwari beating Soprano in a Listed event at Sandown on only her second career start, and she continued to progress as a juvenile rounding off with an excellent second in the Fillies’ Mile. She's very much bred to train on and I still think she could take high rank in the fillies miling division this year.
3.35 Doncaster: Thunder Run
Tipster: Harry Allwood.
Best odds: 11-2.
If there is one contender in the William Hill Lincoln that is a potential Group horse in a handicap, then I think it's Thunder Run, and he looks the one to side with.
Karl Burke's charge has attracted support in recent days, which is no surprise given his profile, and he produced a high level of form in handicaps and novice races last season, despite his inexperience.
His victory in a competitive York handicap on just his fifth start (where he made all) reads particularly well, and he performed with credit in defeat in the Balmoral Handicap on his final outing last season off a 4lb higher mark where he probably found a stiff finish on soft ground too much in the closing stages.
The return to quicker ground on Saturday is a positive, and with just six outings under his belt, he surely has lots more to offer this season.
A new Scandinavian ownership group must have paid a pretty penny for Thunder Run this week, too, so I'm sure they will be expecting big things from the four-year-old who remains on a rating of 100, which could underestimate him.
I'm hoping the selection will be able to lead from stall 19, and he shouldn't be lacking for fitness for a race that has surely been the aim for a while.
4.00 Curragh: Poet Master
Tipster: Johnny Ward.
Best odds: 9-4.
