Faylaq completes swift double with impressive Newmarket success

Faylaq still has a way to go to match the achievements of his Group One-winning parents, but he took another step in the right direction with a facile success at Newmarket on Thursday.
Having opened his account at Ripon last week, the son of Dubawi, who is out of 2011 Arc winner Danedream, barely got out of second gear when following up with a six-length success in the Chemtest Environmental Laboratories Handicap.
Victory for the 1-3 favourite, who cost 1.5 million guineas in 2017, formed the opening leg of doubles for Hamdan Al Maktoum, William Haggas and Jim Crowley.

Angus Gold, racing manager to the winning owner, said: “It was lovely to see. We ran him back quickly and William (Haggas) said it was really a bit of work last week.
“He was so relaxed and he wasn’t worried at all about coming back so quick. Last time I saw him in the flesh was in April and he was all legs and he looked long and light, but he has really deepened, which is a great sign to see a horse do with their work.
“He has been very much a work in progress and he has had two confidence boosters and Jim said he gave him a really nice feel.
“Hopefully it is onwards and upwards from here and looking at him physically, he will be a proper horse this time next year.
Nazeef took a step forward from her eye-catching debut at the track 13 days ago to give Crowley and Al Maktoum further success together when getting the better off Ghalyoon by a length and a quarter in the TRM Kurasyn 360X Maiden Stakes.

Gold said of the John Gosden-trained 4-6 winner: “She is a very well-bred filly and it was important to get a win into her. Jim said she would get an extra furlong, but to to stick to seven furlongs for the time being.
“We would like to get some black type into her, but I would say we will take small steps and not tilt at windmills yet.”
The Night Watch highlighted what he is capable of when everything is in his favour after completing Haggas’ brace when carrying top weight to glory under Ryan Moore in the TRM “Excellence In Equine Nutrition” Handicap.

Harry Eustace, assistant trainer, said of the 7-2 winner: “I think he didn’t handle the heavy ground at Haydock last time and
the trip (seven furlongs) was too far the time before at York.
“Everything has come together well here. Ryan said he picked up better than he thought he would and he got there a bit earlier than ideal.”
Few golden wedding presents will have given owner Joan Snow more satisfaction than now-retired mare Kurtanella, with the Ralph Beckett-trained Tomfre becoming her latest offspring to score when getting up by a head in Black Type Accountancy Novice Auction Stakes.
Snow said of the 6-5 winner, who formed the opening leg of a first and last race double for Harry Bentley: “Kurtanella was my golden wedding present from Philip (husband). He passed away seven years ago, but he must have been looking down today.
“We thought he would go well today. He did exactly what his mother did in getting into fifth gear late on and putting his best foot forward at the last moment.”
The George Scott-trained Jack The Truth (7-1) rounded off Bentley’s brace when ending a drought stretching back to January last year in the TRM Speedxcell Handicap.
