Don Bersy bags biggest success yet at Haydock but Cheltenham off the agenda

Don Bersy landed his third race of the season in the Betfred TV Victor Ludorum Juvenile Hurdle at Haydock but his connections will resist the temptation of the Cheltenham Festival.A winner at Sandown and Warwick already this term, he was having his fifth outing but was sent off at 3-1 behind Neil Mulholland's Most Celebrated, who was in receipt of 3lb.The favourite was far too keen for his own good in the hands of Tom Scudamore, though, and was a spent force early in the straight, with Don Bersy needing to be kept up to his work by James Davies to see off Zalvados by two and a quarter lengths."He's good. I've always thought he was, but he had to be to win with the penalty and on ground the quickest he's run on," said winning trainer Tom Symonds."His jumping was better today but he is bone idle, he's the same at home, he'll only do enough."It's nice when you are proved right, we see it in the mornings at home but when they prove you right on the track it's great."Peter (Gibbings, owner) picked this race after Sandown, but he is always thinking long term with his horses and we're not sure Cheltenham would be the right thing for him this year, so he won't be entered in the Fred Winter."Aintree is a possibility, especially now we know he handles better ground."
