Website tipster and top Racing TV pundit Dave Nevison makes a case for three contenders across Beverley and Kempton on Wednesday, live on Racing TV.
3.15 Beverley: Rajapour
Rajapour doesn’t have a high strike-rate, that’s for sure, but he is pretty consistent when he gets a race run to suit him.
To perform well, he needs a strong pace where he is able to weave through the field late on, and hopefully able to avoid weakening runners as he challenges.
This contest looks likely to be run at a pace which will definitely help the David O’Meara-trained six-year-old who, being a pound lower than when he won in December, is definitely well enough handicapped.
He has been beaten narrowly in two of his three latest outings, and is clearly just needing the breaks. The stiff finish at Beverley could bring out the best in him, too. He's the nap of the day.
5.20 Beverley: Thornaby Pearl
Thornaby Pearl should be able to get the lead here, and secure the favoured rail from stall four as those inside start slowly, and the other pace setter drawn just outside of him seems badly out of form.
Surprisingly, the eight-year-old sprinter is running for the first time at Beverley, but he runs well at places like Hamilton and Carlisle, which are pretty similar and, given he stays six furlongs, this could be a suitable track for him.
He has improved on his two runs so far this season - both under Jack Nicholls, who clearly gets on well with him and claims a useful 3lb.
The selection races off the same mark he won off just five starts ago, and should go very close.
8.30 Kempton: Ernst Blofeld
This is definitely the best race of the day, with several contenders who are attempting to get back on the up, including Ernst Blofeld.
This lightly-raced four-year-old looked pretty good and was clearly held in decent regard by the Gosden team in the early part of last season, but might have been too highly tried, and went off the boil plus left the yard at the end of last season.
After a break of 10 months, he returned at Newmarket and finished a promising fourth when trying this trip for the first time.
The booking of Billy Loughnane (one from one for the yard this year) catches the eye, and if he builds on that recent run, he could well go close here.
