The finish of last year’s running of this race was dominated by high drawn horses and I have never been as concerned about the draw over 7f at Chester than at other trips.
Monsieur Fudge won at Catterick on a tight left-handed track last time, so the layout of Chester certainly won’t be a concern for George Scott’s improving handicapper.
He has only gone up 6lbs for a comfortable two-length win last time and, if he gets the breaks, I feel he could go close despite a wide draw.
5.25 Kempton: Port Road
Alfie Redman is a young claimer who is doing well from limited opportunities this spring and has ridden a couple of decent winners recently.
His mount Port Road has probably been around Kempton more times than him and will be happier back here than he was at Epsom, which seemed to catch him out last time.
He had been running well on the all-weather up to then and is off a pound lower mark this afternoon against exposed rivals. He is well suited by the 1m trip.
7.30 Kempton: Wobwobwob
Wobwobwob doesn’t have that much experience of the all-weather but has been left on a very handy mark on this surface despite a couple of seasons of steady improvement on turf.
He runs here after a break since October and has run well after a break in the past. He has also run as though he might need a run on occasions, but given the excellent form of Adrian Keatley I am happy to take the chance.
As ever with this yards runners, the market is always a key indicator, so I will be watching market moves closely, but if he is fancied, WobWobWob has a great chance and I am sure will win one on the all-weather soon.
