Noel Kelly does well with his regular Cartmel raiders and Nakassama might still be well handicapped enough to see off a strong local contingent including a Jimmy Moffatt trio.
This gelding was well campaigned to get a handicap mark of 90 and landing a serious gamble at Hexham last season, under today’s jockey whom he clearly gets on well with.
He bolted up again last time out at Downpatrick being backed into a short price once more and even though the UK handicapper has seemingly taken drastic action by raising him to a mark a stone higher than from which he previously finished second ar Ayr, Nakassama might still be well in if his recent Flat efforts are considered. This trip is clearly ideal.
George Bewley has his small string in good form and will be hoping this mare can end a run of frustrating seconds during June. Winds of Winter was in good form last season winning over course and distance in July and certainly looks to have been running herself into form in her three starts this season.
It was a strongly run race the last time she won here, suiting her hold-up style perfectly, and she looks set to have that sort of set up once more under similar conditions. Plenty of in form rivals line up against her so she could well go off at an each-way price.
Sam England possibly took on a bit of a challenge in trying to do better with a horse than Dan Skelton managed, but Ghasham has done really well so far in three runs for the yard, finishing second twice and then trotting up at odds on on his latest start.
All three runs came off a mark of 98 and he is 4lb higher after that latest win but he has Sean Bowen on board here and I don’t feel the weight pull for runner-up Bentley Road will be enough to turn around the two and three-quarter lengths between the pair in thar contest.
