Dave Nevison, who struck with a 14-1 winner on Saturday, has fancies at Newmarket, Kempton and Fontwell on Wednesday. Enjoy every race from both Newmarket and Kempton live on Racing TV!
3.05 Fontwell: Mutual Respect
The handicapper has left
on the same mark, despite winning on his latest start. He was left in front at the last by a faller, and definitely would have been booked for second, but still came out best in a battle to the line at Worcester. I thought he probably deserved a bit more respect for the win, too.
The rival he did eventually beat in the race came out and won at Hereford next time out, so the form definitely isn't too bad, and Billy Aprahamian has his small string in good form.
I am expecting another good run from Mutual Respect here.
4.05 Newmarket: Zapphire
Zapphire has enjoyed a good relationship since the start of the summer with Tom Kiely-Marshall, and the pair can round off a successful season for both with a win in this competitive Fillies' Handicap.
Successful at Beverley in August, Zapphire then went to Leopardstown and contested a valuable Fillies' Handicap, but found herself out the back in a slowly-run race, and couldn’t get to the leaders who quickened on.
She quickly made amends last time with a really good run at Redcar in another strong race when finishing a good third. She also ran well on soft ground last season, so it is difficult to see her running anything other than a good race here, as long as her rider doesn’t hold her up too far behind the leaders at this track.
7.40 Kempton: Tempus
Archie Watson has been running a lot of horses at very big prices recently and, consequently, his numbers might not accurately reflect the form of the yard.
I am happy to take a chance of
who definitely had excuses for a poor run last time having been struck into, and he also lost a shoe.
He has dropped to a mark 9lb lower than when he last ran on the all-weather, and although this dual Group Three winner might not return to those sort of heights, he has run well enough this season on occasions to suggest he might be able to figure off a mark of 93 here.
A lot of the better fancied contenders here have got poor draws in the high numbers, and this could be the best opportunity for Tempus in a good while. At likely decent odds, I am hopeful he can outrun his price.
