2.10 Ascot: Maghlaak
Maghlaak ran really well over jumps last time out at Market Rasen and if he's in the same form again here, he ought to go close.
Adrian Keatley's gelding contested a Group race at York prior to that, and while he ran well, he definitely wasn’t up to that level, so will be more at home in this lower grade.
He finished a good second in a similar contest to this at York's Dante Festival in May, so definitely turns up for the big occasions, and has scored over this distance (over jumps).
2.45 Ascot: Night Breeze
Ian Williams often has runners on Dubai Duty Free Shergar Cup day, and his contenders do well at this meeting, and
Night Breeze has run his two best races this season over this course and distance, so definitely looks set to run well here.
He was possibly outclassed by the in-form Mount Atlas last time out, but still performed well, and may do even better given the likelihood of a stronger pace in this bigger field.
The selection improved rapidly last season and the race he won here in May was a strong one for the grade. I certainly believe he is capable of winning off this mark.
4.10 Haydock: Catalyse
This contest is a fairly high-grade handicap, but one in which every runner finished out of the frame last time out, so is a contest full of tricky, or out of form, contenders.
Catalyse has much less previous convictions than most and has definitely improved with each run this season plus could be being brought along steadily.
He was very well backed when scoring on debut last season but was highly tried after that, and was not up to it.
In handicaps this season he has been dropped 6lb from his opening mark, and definitely showed promising signs when fifth last time out. This isn’t a strong race for the grade and could be an ideal opportunity for him.
5.20 Haydock: Billyb
A strongly-run mile seems to be ideal for
Billyb these days, and with his stablemate Intinso, and other front-runners in this mile handicap, a strong pace looks assured.
Billyb has produced his best form on his past two outings and won a very competitive 19-runner handicap at York last time out. A 4lb rise was definitely the least he was going to get for such a win, and I think that, given his hot form, he should be able to defy the rise and score again off his new mark.
He has won off a pound higher in the past and with a good draw at a track he knows well, a good run looks assured.
