Our betting expert, Dave Nevison, is siding with four selections across Sandown and Haydock on Saturday, live on Racing TV.
1.20 Sandown: Fasol
Fasol has undoubtedly been a disappointment to many and certainly hasn’t lived up to his Group class flat form over hurdles.
However, there may be some plausible excuses for him getting beat a few times. He was was second at 1-5 last time out, but making his own running in a small field didn’t suit him that day, and he has run his best races in big-field handicaps.
He will be very well suited by the pace of this competitive handicap and has shown on occasions that he still possesses the speed to pass plenty of opponents. He looks overpriced for at least a place here.
1.50 Sandown: Inedit Star
Inedit Star has been a consistent performer for this yard, despite having a few breaks, and possibly being difficult to train.
He was returning from a ten-week absence when running his best race this season at Aintree last time out where he finished third behind handicap plot Sans Bruit, who has scored again since.
The selection is racing off the same rating here and has the same useful 5lb claimer aboard (Tom Broughton).
Given the way he rallied between the last two fences at Aintree, Inedit Star may well be suited by the step up in trip and, as a seven-year-old, he should still have more to offer plus doesn’t need to improve much to figure here.
3.50 Haydock: Belsito
Belsito has had another wind operation since the end of last season, and it won’t have needed to improved him much more for him to get back to winning ways here.
Kevin Ryan has started the season in decent form, and Belsito has bagged a decent draw in stall three for this very tight sprint.
The likely strong pace will suit him, and he responded well to the application of cheekpieces on his final three starts last season. Ground on the easy side of good will also be fine for this five-year-old.
4.10 Sandown: High Class Hero
High Class Hero is a novice over fences, with this being just his fourth outing over fences, but has shown enough already to suggest a big handicap like this is well within range.
He certainly lived up to his name over hurdles by winning his first four starts over obstacles, plus also won a bumper, and looked a very sound stayer throughout.
Last time out, the seven-year-old was beaten at odds of 1-5 in a small-field graded event at Thurles, but it was pretty clear that 2m5f was way too short for him, and it definitely looks as though this trip at Sandown will be much better for him.
Paul Townend has had the choice of multiple Mullins entries, and could well be on the contender that decides the Jump Trainers' Championship.
