Our betting expert Dave Nevison believes market moves should be heeded for the 2000 Guineas and has four selections on the Newmarket card.
Magna Grecia has plenty going for him in the first Classic of the season (Focusonracing)
Saxon Warrior might not have gone as promised after his convincing win in last year’s Qipco 2000 Guineas but he won the first Classic in authoritative style after being well supported near the off.
I will be watching the market very closely for the late move as that will surely indicate which of Aidan O’Brien’s pair - Magna Grecia and Ten Sovereigns – carries the most confidence. It would not be the worst tactic simply to follow the betting moves.
At this stage I prefer Magna Grecia. Already a Group One winner over a mile, his stamina is assured whereas the speedy Ten Sovereigns has never gone beyond 6f in three runs so far.
The proven stamina is the deciding factor for me but as I have indicated several times on the channel I have great faith in the market indications with Coolmore horses and if they come for the Middle Park winner then I may well revise my view.
In a 19-runner field, SkyBet are going five places on each-way bets and I'm sure that John Gosden will fill one of them with the progressive Kick On, who won a Listed race on his reappearance, making all in good style.
He appears to have been re-routed to this from the French Guineas after the defection of Too Darn Hot and it could be a good move.
He was behind Magna Grecia at Doncaster in the autumn but definitely looked as though he was learning that day and I am convinced he will be closer this time. He has already shown the trip is no issue.
As I get older I should probably avoid cliff edges but this horse is another who has got me sucked in.
He is a fantastic-looking specimen, as I saw on his debut, and would have landed one of the gambles of last season at Redcar but for a poor draw.
That run still represents the best form in Saturday’s field, however, with his only win so far when a 1-10 chance on the all-weather.
This is his chance to land a good race at a decent price. Over this trip, which may well be his optimum, I am hoping and believing that Ryan Moore will get him rolling in the front line and that hopefully he will see off a quality field of handicappers.
This horse is having a quick turnaround after possibly disappointing those who backed him heavily last weekend.
The Esher Cup always represents a handicap to keep a close eye on and this one went off favourite, but looked to do too much and had nothing left a furlong out.
Silvestre De Sousa is a master from the front and I expect he will be wise to the tactics this time.
The tie-up between the jockey, King Power and Andrew Balding has been a feature of the early stages of this season and, off just a 1lb higher mark due to being out of the weights, I expect Fox Leicester to make amends.
