The focus now shifts to the Flat and the opening day of the Craven Meeting at Newmarket on Tuesday is a cracker with the bet365 Free Handicap and Lanwade Stud Nell Gwyn Stakes being must watch events.
Most regular readers will know I am quite heavily involved in Inspiral for the QIPCO 1000 Guineas and will be watching closely how Cachet runs in the fillies’ trial as she was beaten 2 ½ lengths by Inspiral last autumn.
She looks a solid type who had plenty of runs last term and if she wins this, as favourite, I will take it as a boost to Inspiral’s chances. The handicap at the end of the card looks like it could easily be the most interesting and often contains a future Group class runner.
Has got quite a way to go before he emulates his Group One-winning brother Oxted but is still relatively lightly raced for a four-year-old sprinter and certainly ended last season on a roll, winning three on the bounce.
He seemed to come good when Trevor Whelan took over on him and it is good to see him back on board for his seasonal debut here. A strongly run race seems to suit him Chipstead well and that is guaranteed here.
This 0-100 is a step up in grade but he obviously has it in his pedigree to rise to this level and beyond.
Looks a good thing under just a 7lb penalty for his impressive 20-length win at Kelso last week.
That was his chasing debut but he jumped like an old hand and ran away from his rivals without having a hard race.
He began life in handicap hurdles off a mark of 113 and, though he never lived up to it, he still looks very well in off a mark of 98. He has clearly benefitted from a change of stable plus a step up in trip, a move that was long overdue looking at some of his runs.
Hasn’t been very well named up until now but the move to Gillian Bonas could be a significant turning point.
This is a modest handicap and the booking of Sean Quinlan looks significant as a glance through On We Go’s form shows his best efforts have been with Quinlan on board – including when fourth in a handicap off a mark of 87. He runs off 73 on Tuesday.
Quinlan does not ride often for Bonas and clearly looks to have been booked to revive the nine-year-old on his first start for the yard.
