He has run well on most of his starts this season and may be poised to go in again.
Hotspur Harry won well under Andrea Atzeni last time but broke his maiden under George Eddery in April last year and goes well for this jockey. That first success came off a mark of 74 and, after being raised to 78, dropped all the way down to a mark of 60 before winning by 3 ½ lengths in good style earlier this month. He has gone up just 3lbs for that.
This 10-furlong trip seems ideal and Harry Hotspur should get a decent pace from front-running Bollin Margaret, who looks the main danger.
This three-year-old is most progressive and can complete a hat-trick against older rivals in this handicap for fillies and mares.
Makarova seemed to improve considerably from her first win last time out, easily putting two lengths between herself and the rest of a good field. Both the second and the fourth from that Salisbury event have gone in since and the form looks very solid. Makarova has been put up 7lbs by the handicapper, who in my view often errs on the side of generosity with improving sprinters and half a stone more would certainly not have changed the last result.
Makarova is perfectly drawn in stall 4 and should be able to sit just off the pace before making a challenge close home.
He really hit form last time out in a very similar race to this one.
Tammani was very useful for William Haggas as a two-year-old and three-year-old and thought good enough to be tried at Group One level. He lost his form when sent over to France and was quickly brought back over here for David O’Meara half way through last season, which didn’t immediately stem the decline. However, he tumbled down the weights and after a modest reappearance was desperately unlucky on his latest start.
Tammani was blocked behind a wall of horses until the final furlong and simply could not getting going on time. A strongly-run race will help him here and I am sure James Doyle will be keen to make amends.
