Our resident website tipster Dave Nevison likes runners at Thirsk on the first of 16 fixtures at the track this Flat season. Enjoy a bumper eight-race card live on Racing TV.
He goes on any ground and looks to have been teed up for a good run on turf judging by his efforts so far this year.
The handicapper has allowed his turf mark to track his all-weather mark yet it looks as though he is a better horse on turf. Jackmeister Rudi is back to his last mark winning mark on the grass - a win off 57 at Catterick last autumn - with that effort quickly followed by a good run when second off 61 in a similar event. He won off a higher mark of 62 earlier in the campaign at Brighton.
Jackmeister Rudi ran well at Wolverhampton last time, especially as he was forced wide on the home turn, and he looks set to be spot on today. Trainer Katie Scott clearly thinks he can win over seven furlongs and, while the yard has been quiet, they had a winner last week and five runners on this card. Hopefully I have picked the right one.
There looks to be little impediment to a good performance here.
Purple Ice is a maiden handicapper and went down by 10lb in the handicap last season, but it wasn’t all bad news and he ran a few decent races along the way and certainly showed enough to suggest he can win a race. He ran really well off a mark of 70 on his return last season after a 199-day break, so he can clearly act well fresh and if he is fit he is surely he is capable of going close in this much lower grade.
Purple Ice stays this trip well enough and has run a decent race at Redcar in November 2021 on soft ground. Michael Dods’ Brunch ran a good second at Doncaster at the weekend and the trainer had two other runners-up, so winners will come very soon from this yard.
He may just have a class advantage here.
This looks set to be run at a fast pace and One More Dream is positioned in between two confirmed front-runners, which may enable him to sit in a good position just off the pace.
He is 1lb higher than the ceiling of this race, but his high weight is reduced by the useful claim of Taylor Fisher and the apprentice has won on him in the past. Not many of the opposition here are in good form at present.
