2.10 Beverley: Powdering

Michael Herrington picked up a well-handicapped filly who was badly out of form when he picked up Powdering from Kevin Ryan towards the end of last year.
At first, it didn’t look as though things were getting any better and she initially slipped even further down the weights.
However, she has turned the corner in fine style and has won here of her past four starts, landing a competitive hands and heels apprentices’ handicap at Newmarket’s Guineas meeting in very good style by two lengths on her latest start.
She is only 6lb higher and a mark of 71 looks manageable provided she is still in the same form.
3.10 Beverley: Zozimus

I have only jumped on the Zozimus bus lately and have no issues about giving him another go.
Last time he was beaten a nose and did nothing wrong. The winner travelled away from him and it could have been that Zozimus ended up in front just a fraction too soon.
I am in no way criticising Jason Watson as there is no doubt that Zozimus is tricky. I’m hoping that Danny Tudhope can hit the front on the line here.
That opportunity might be there in a race where there is pretty sure to be a strong pace. Zozimus sometimes starts slowly and might enjoy weaving through close home. The six-year-old ran very well over course and distance last September, off a 4lb higher mark, and just needs things to fall right.
6.20 Cartmel: Calevade
I have a fascination for selling handicaps, both over Jumps and Flat, and think there should be more of them. This race is a cracker of its type.
I am hoping that Cavelade can repeat his win of 12 months ago under Richie McLernon, who was on board for that success. I have absolutely no doubt that Ben Haslam will have aimed him for Cartmel again and he clearly goes well at the track as he followed up last term.
He does have to come back into form but maybe the cheekpieces being reapplied will help him. He won this last year after a small lay off and he has again been given a break.
The handicapper has certainly done his bit dropping him back to 100. He has run good races off 105 and 106 not that long ago.
