Dave Nevison: my best two bets at Sandown on Thursday

Top tipster Dave Nevison has a selection at Catterick on Thursday afternoon plus also has two fancies on the brilliant evening card, featuring the Chasemore Farm Brigadier Gerard Stakes, at Sandown. Enjoy both fixtures live on Racing TV.
4.10 Catterick: Ghathanfar
Ghathanfar’s form figures over the past two seasons haven’t been the most encouraging, but until recently, connections appeared to have been chasing the competitive York handicaps, and although running well on a few occasions, Tracy Waggott’s sprinter has not proved up to it.
His rating has dropped to 70 now, though, and Ghathanfar has run well enough off that mark the last twice to suggest he can make it third time lucky in this.
He was beaten only three-quarters of a length over course and distance last time out and he looks like he should be able to sit just off a lead set by Quercus in stall three, and hopefully will have enough left to pounce late.
7.07 Sandown: Caius Chorister

I am breaking my minimum eight-runner race rule and having a rare bet outside of handicaps here, but I like the look of Caius Chorister and I am still hoping to get a win on this mare to compensate for her desperately unlucky run when I put her up for last year’s Ebor!
She was sixth (thankfully!) there but I believe she could have won the Ebor showpiece with a clear run.
Since then, she has contested Listed and Group races and performed really well, with a Group Three victory at Saint Cloud on her final start.
She ran a blinder on her reappearance when beaten a neck by Coltrane in the Sagaro Stakes at Ascot and I am definitely keeping with the David Menuisier stable while they are in such good form.
8.42 Sandown: Classic

The Horse Kick Cider Whitsun Cup Handicap is a cracking finale to a terrific evening card at Sandown, and I am counting on bang in-form rider Pat Dobbs to deliver Classic later than he did when second to Crack Shot at Newbury on his final start last year.
He was possibly just outstayed on that occasion, but he has had another winter to strengthen up and I believe that he was still improving when we last saw him.
He is 7lb better off with that rival for a half-length defeat(Crack Shot has already won this season) so he is certainly well weighted to reverse the form.
Richard Hannon’s four-year-old won at this course last season and is still lightly raced, so there is definitely upside potential to him.
