3.15 Epsom: Spoken Truth
Spoken Truth has run three good races since joining David O’Meara from Ireland and looks a really good buy at only £28k. He looks set to win a decent handicap in the near future and should get a place at least in this very competitive affair.
He was a maiden winner for Dermot Weld however didn't progress after being highly tried, but not unusually he seems to have been reinvigorated by the move. He ran well in the Zetland Gold Cup at Redcar last time and might have been a closer second with a clear run.
Seriously well bred, it isn’t impossible for Spoken Truth to progress further and he might surprise a few here in a race where bookies are offering extra places.
4.40 Epsom: Asmen Warrior
I am putting a lot of faith on the application of blinkers replacing a visor to bring about the smidge of improvement needed to enable Asmen Warrior to win off this mark of 88.
The James Owen-trained gelding has been narrowly beaten on his latest three runs and is no doubt frustrating, but Silvestre De Sousa did very well on him last time and looks absolutely the right jockey for a race at Epsom - he will no doubt be very positive on the four-year-old here.
The Owen yard are in very good form and Asmen Warrior has done well on easy ground in the past.
5.50 Epsom: Sunny Smile
We are at the time of year that three-year-olds get to take on their elders and often improve past them. It is obviously risky backing a horse on its seasonal debut in a hot handicap such as this, but I feel there are a few reasons to be positive.
Sunny Smile has run just five times in total with all runs coming over six furlongs. His final race of last season definitely suggested he was very ready for a step up in trip, and he might well be capable of better form now that the bang-in-form Hugo Palmer has entered him here.
The application of a visor for his seasonal reappearance also strikes me as a positive, and it is certainly no negative having Saffie Osborne booked for this lightly-weighted gelding.
