2.00 Newbury: Activist
Rian Corcoran is on most people’s list of promising young jockey’s, and his 3lb allowance is significant when riding against other conditional riders, while taking off a further 3lb when he rides for his own stable can make his mounts look favourably weighted indeed.
Activist couples that weight advantage with a good run last time out, and looks a decent bet here, in my opinion.
David Pipe’s hurdler won two races last season, but has been slow to hit form this term. However, the addition of a tongue tie last time out, as well as his usual visor, brought about improvement.
With the trip and ground once again in his favour, it is tough to see a negative.
3.22 Doncaster: Leaumec De Mee
Leaumec De Mee ran respectably in his first handicap at Newbury last time out, and looks ready to kick on in this sphere now.
Dan Skelton’s gelding won the second of his two novice outings, and definitely lacked experience when last seen, but did stay on well close home.
He will have learned from that and will no doubt improve, especially as this race contains several rivals who are out of form, have doubts about the trip, or are returning from a wind op.
Leaume De Mee looks the straightforward choice.
3.57 Doncaster: Mr Griffiths
Mr Griffiths is unpenalised for a recent 26-length victory in a "Hands And Heels" event last week and, provided he is in the same form turned out quickly, he is impossible to oppose.
It certainly seems as though the dramatic step up in distance, and the drop into handicap company, has been the making of this six-year-old who had not previously been placed in three novices and a bumper.
He will be short odds here, but should win easily.
