1.30 Chester: Two Tempting
Johnathon Portman’s team are in good form (he had a Group Three winner at the Guineas meeting last week) and it looks as though Two Tempting has been brought along this season with this race as his early target.
He has been sent off at big prices in handicaps so far, and certainly improved considerably for his first run to finish a good fourth at Newbury last time out.
Another pound lower here, he is now just a pound higher than when winning a course and distance handicap last year.
He is drawn lower in this event, and should be able to hold a good position in a very tight race. Rob Hornby was on board when he won in August, too, and gets on well with the selection.
3.05 Chester: Who’s Glen
Who’s Glen went up 12lb for a 13-length victory at this track last summer, so clearly handles Chester very well, and Andrew Balding’s gelding is one of the few in this field who hasn’t been over hurdles this winter
The four-year-old looks like he still has improvement in him on the flat, and reappeared over two miles at Kempton in March where he was a staying on second, and possibly produced his career best.
He races as though this extra two furlongs won’t inconvenience him, and he might remain a well handicapped stayer, despite the hefty rise last year.
It is almost a given that trainer Andrew Balding has his string in good form, and Who's Glen is the pick.
4.45 Chester: Tailorman
Ian Williams has an excellent record in staying handicaps at Chester, and although Tailorman hasn’t registered a win at the track, he has run three excellent races here, and has definitely not enjoyed a lucky break at Chester.
He ran well to be beaten a length at Nottingham on his reappearance after, once again, not enjoying the clearest passage through the race.
He will no doubt improve for that outing given that his trainer targets this meeting, and off the same rating as last time, he might just gain an overdue course win on Friday.
