1.50 York: Looking For Lynda
His record at the track, when he gets favourable conditions, is a good one.
He was second in a similar race over course and distance at the Dante meeting and is now off a 4lb lower mark.
He has fared well with the draw in stall two here and the booking of the excellent Saffie Osborne looks a plus.
Trainer Karl Burke will be hopeful of a good meeting and has been in great form all season so I definitely expect a good run.
3.35 York: Calandagan (each-way)
Ryan Moore was quick to blame himself for the unimpressive victory for
in the Eclipse last time out and it is perfectly possible the Derby winner might be brilliant again here.
However, in my day I have seen an awful lot of upsets in this race and, in the best renewal I can remember, I’m happy to take on the favourite and go in strong each-way on Calandagan, who was singularly impressive when winning at Ascot last time.
He won the "Ascot Derby" by seven and a half lengths in brilliant style and drops down in trip here, but his two previous victories came over this distance in Group Threes at Longchamp.
Calandagan looks an exceptional horse, but also very reliable, and I think he will be unfazed stepping into Group One company.
4.10 York: Knightswood
Knightswood got stuck behind a wall of horses at Goodwood last time and couldn’t get out to make a challenge – even though he could be seen travelling really well from some way out.
I’m sure Joe Fanning will be keen not to find so much trouble this time and the step up to two miles looks as though it may well suit Charlie Johnston’s consistent five-year-old.
Knightswood can pretty much always be relied upon to run well so I expect another good effort from him.
