“Tonight they put down their reins, and pick up their three arrows...!” - Tom Stanley
If you didn’t manage to watch Dartenham on Racing TV during the Cheltenham Festival last week, make sure you find time to watch the full show on Racing TV’s YouTube page!
Several top jump jockeys, plus a couple of former jockeys, took each other on in a darts challenge, hosted by Racing TV presenter Tom Stanley, before clashing with Australian professional darts player Damon Heta, who went viral recently for hitting a nine-darter at the 2024/25 Paddy Power World Darts Championship.
We won’t reveal too much, but it is fair to say none of the jockeys that took part in Dartenham will be giving up their day job any time soon!
Spoiler alert: one of our favourite moments was Brendan 'Bullseye Bert' Powell calling for a stewards' enquiry when up against Daryl Jacob, who was using various tactics to distract Powell in a close game.
The nicknames the jockeys chose were eye-opening, too!
The special tournament, filmed in the weighing room at Cheltenham for the David Power Jockeys’ Cup, made for entertaining viewing, and is certain to put a smile on your face, with lots of friendly rivalry between the contestants, although it did get VERY competitive at times!
Below is the Dartenham line-up, including the nicknames for each jockey.
Red Team:
-Harry ‘The Wizard’ Skelton
-Jack ‘The Tank’ Tudor
-Paul ‘Tea Bag’ O’Brien
-Brendan ‘Bullseye Bert’ Powell
-Sam ‘Bean’ Twiston-Davies
-Will ‘Westlife’ Kennedy
Blue Team:
-Charlie ‘The Deutsch Bag’ Deutsch
-Adam ‘The Big Cheese’ Wedge
-Johnny ‘The Globe’ Burke
-Daryl ‘The Dazzler’ Jacob
-Gavin ‘Switch’ Sheehan
-Jonjo ‘Silent Assassin’ O’Neill Jr
We hope you enjoy watching the feature as much as we did filming it, and the good news is there will be a second series of Dartenham next year!
