Christine Dunnett ended what seemed like an eternity without a winner at Yarmouth after Agent Of Fortune led home a one-two for her yard in the 188Bet World Cup Money Back Specials Handicap.
Having gone 1,868 days without a victory at the Norfolk track, the Norwich-based handler set the record straight with the daughter of Kheleyf getting the better of stablemate Shyjack by a short head in the seven-furlong prize.
Dunnett said after the 12-1 strike: “It’s been a long time and it couldn’t be for a better owner (Andy Machin). The one-two brings back memories of many years ago.
“We’ve had one-twos here before, but not for a long time. It was a very lean year last year, but we’ve got some of the best we’ve had for a few years now.
“I did make a prediction she would be my next winner. It’s lovely coming here. I’ve got lot of supporters and I hope some of them backed her.
“We we will keep coming back here. I can hold my head high now I’ve had a winner.”
Julia Feilden was delivered the perfect birthday present by her daughter Shelley Birkett as Terri Rules squeezed through the tightest of gaps to get up and claim the 188Bet Mobile Bet10 Get20 Handicap by half a length.
Feilden said of the 5-2 winner: “I didn’t think she was going very well because she got stopped, but she filled her up again.
“They were so brave to go through the gap. I’m so proud of them. You could not ask for a better present.
“She has had three quick runs, so we probably won’t rush too much with this weather, as it takes a bit out of them.”
Turning his back on football appears to have been a wise decision by Gavin Ashton, who galvanised the Lydia Pearce-trained Bartholomew J to his third victory at the track this year when taking the apprentice handicap by a length and a quarter.
He said: “I was doing a course at Hopwood Hall College which Manchester City had paired up with and I had planned to do a football scholarship out in America.
“I was working part-time as a chef as well and one night I was pouring a drink at a bar and this woman said about to me about being a jockey, so one year into my course I went down to the British Racing School.
“Two years ago I hadn’t sat on a horse, so it’s been a massive change. I’m based with Sir Mark Prescott and that’s why I’m progressing so well.”
Pearce’s son and assistant, Simon, added of the 7-4 winner: “He likes it here as he takes a while to go through the gears and the long straight helps him do that.”
Johni Boxit (9-2) gave Gay Kelleway her 15th triumph of the year when coming good at the ninth time of asking in the 188Bet World Cup Quarter Final Specials Selling Handicap.
Equalling her total from 12 months ago, Kelleway said: “From Northumberland Vases to sellers at Yarmouth, it’s not bad for a little yard. We’ve had 15 winners this year already and 15 overall last year.
“He is in the sales next week. Dane (O’Neill) said he goes on any ground. He just needs to be patiently ridden.”
Mark Johnston enjoyed a double on the day after debutant Dark Vision (8-1) took the British Stallion Studs EBF Novice Stakes, before Austin Powers (7-4) ran out victorious in the Download The App At 188Bet Handicap.
