Burke hoping to run Fallen Angel and Convergent at Haydock

Karl Burke is looking forward to what could be another big Saturday, with Fallen Angel and Convergent among the entries for the resumption of racing at Haydock.
All races are being run on the inside course over the two-day meeting which starts on Friday evening while track repairs continue following the discovery of a hole in May.
Convergent is among the entries for the feature Betway Rose of Lancaster Stakes, with multiple Group One winner Fallen Angel one of 21 in the Listed Irish Stallion Farms EBF Dick Hern Stakes.
As Fallen Angel is at her best with a bit of give in the ground, the hot summer has not been in her favour.
“If they’ve done a good job with the watering, which you’d think they would with it being the first meeting back, the plan is to run her. I’m sure they’ll try to produce real good ground,” said Burke.
“She’s actually been ready to run for two months so this weather has been no help to her.
“We made a decision not to run her on fast ground as it isn’t fair on her, she likes cut in the ground. As long as it is good ground she will go there.”
The returning Calendar Girl, Bellarchi and Pacific Mission are among the entries.
Convergent’s season began in great style with a dramatic win in Newbury’s John Porter Stakes but he was all at sea on soft ground in the Coronation Cup at Epsom and disappointed at Newmarket last time out.
“I’ve put him in the Rose of Lancaster. We’ll see how he works in the morning but there’s a strong possibility he’ll go there,” said Burke.
“Epsom I just put down to the ground and that was easy to excuse, but the other day I’m not sure if it was the mile and a half down to the start and then the mile and a half back on fast ground – I hate making excuses, but that was going from one extreme to the other.
“He probably just wants good ground ideally, good to soft would be perfect.
“We gave him a full MOT and he was fine, we haven’t done a lot with him so he’s looking a bit heavy, but a good bit of work should blow him out nicely and hopefully we can go on Saturday.”
Sallaal, Pride Of Arras, Nahraan and Danger Bay are others to catch the eye in the 10-strong list for the Group Three.
