Angus McNae's Wednesday tips: Song Maker can hit the right note at Headquarters

I have four selections on Wednesday and all are at a good card at Newmarket.
Despite a slightly disappointing effort when second last time out at Nottingham three weeks ago in a slowly run affair, I think this filly deserves another chance.
Her debut run at Newmarket was full of promise in a race that has worked out well.

Indeed both her first two starts showed her to be talented and open to improvement.
That her progression stalled somewhat is largely due to the nature of the Nottingham race, which was run at a crawl with a finishing speed percentage of 111.8, according to Timeform.
Given that her pedigree contains plenty of stayers that test of speed would really not have suited and with a better gallop here she can get back on track and leave her maiden tag behind.
This nicely bred two-year-old is closely related to the Group One-winning Speedy Boarding and showed a good deal on debut over this course and distance and he can build on that effort here.

14:20 Warwick - Thursday July 11
In that race this son of Frankel was second to Thrave, who Racing UK ambassador Harry Bentley has spoken very highly of, and posted a good first time Timeform speed figure, while appearing to be held back by his inexperience.
He is sure to be all the wiser for that run and can put that experience to good use here.
Owen Burrows, his trainer, has had an excellent second half to the season. He recently lost his much respected father, so it is appropriate that I offer my sincere condolences to him and his family.
This is a competitive handicap but I like the chances of the three-year-old filly Song Maker, who is in good form for Charlie Appleby.
Above all, I like her strong travelling prominent running style at this track. I have lost count over the years of horses that have won making all at the Rowley Mile, or at least have won having been ridden handily.
She is very likely to be prominent and is certain to get deep into the race on the bridle.
When she made all to win at Chester in September over 10 furlongs she was far too keen in headgear but was still good enough to win.

Then in her first handicap at Chelmsford she finished third but was forced in to a wide trip. She was then just edged out at Wolverhampton, which suggests she is still well treated. Hopefully her jockey will ride her prominently and a big run can be expected if that is the case.
I think that this is an interesting maiden with some nicely bred types and the once-raced Knight To Behold is the 6-4 favourite. His price ensures we get decent odds about Bow Street, who is a generally available 3-1.
The selection was very inexperienced on his debut behind Kasar at Kempton. He did finish his race off well to be third and the time of the race was very solid.

15:50 Newmarket - Saturday July 13
Knight To Behold was just as promising on his debut at Newbury behind White Mocha, but he got a long way behind before running on well and there is a chance he could be flattered.
As such I will take Charlie Appleby to bag a double with Bow Street, who will be a lot wiser this time.
