Three winners from four selections last week ensured a profitable day and hopefully more to come this week, starting with:
1.45 Perth: Enki Flacke
All three of this horse’s career wins have come here at Perth and he can add to that tally.
On his past two starts he has won novice hurdles at this track by 11 and six lengths respectively. His latest win was a straightforward success in a weak race, but he did it well without being asked for maximum effort.
This race is not that much stronger and I can see a similar result. He would have some scope if going handicapping but trainer Gordon Elliott is happy to stick with the novice route for now. He will be hard to beat.
3.46 Stratford: Beyond The Clouds
After a 189-day break, Beyond The Clouds reverted to hurdles in April and after a very good run at Cartmel last time seems to be coming to the boil.
That race at Cartmel was a very competitive Class 2 Handicap and he equipped himself well; losing out only to the well-treated Island Mahee with plenty of in-form horses behind him.
This is a drop in grade and presents him with an easier task. Brian Hughes takes the ride and that is never a bad thing.
4.15 Fairyhouse: Affogato
This filly steps up markedly in grade but the manner of her win last time out suggests she is ready for this grade.
She won her maiden narrowly at Gowran Park, making all of the running. Last time at Fairyhouse connections changed tactics and rode her patiently and it was a good decision given how well she quickened to win decisively.
She stormed clear and is clearly ready to take on Pattern company. Trainer Ger Lyons also saddles Marbling but Colin Keane opts for Affogato and she is worth supporting.

5.05 Sligo: Grivei
Grivel went off an odds-on favourite when making her debut in a Bumper at Fairyhouse. He could only finish second but shaped with plenty of promise.
He travelled well and looked all over the winner when hitting the front but was caught close home and beaten half a length. He is from a very good National Hunt family and there is plenty of stamina on the distaff side of the pedigree, which bodes well for him here as he is stepping up in trip to 2m2f. He is definitely the one to beat.
