The Investec Derby picture is just about complete, bar a decision on the participation of Telecaster. With or without him, I am firmly in the Broome camp.
Of all of Aiden O'Brien's runners, he has both the highest Timeform rating and the best speed figure in the field, achieved two starts ago in the Ballysax.
He reminds me of High Chaparral, and like that great champion, Broome promises to improve at 12 furlongs. They both had exactly the same preparation. High Chaparral won the Ballysax, obtaining a Timeform rating of 123. Broome won the same race with a rating of 122.

They both then won the Derrinstown and neither ran to the same level - High Chaparral 118 and Broome 112+. This may seem a little strange but what it meant for High Chaparral was that he didn’t leave his Derby behind at Leopardstown, he avoided a bounce and Broome has, I believe, done that as well. When it came to the Derby High Chaparral ran to a figure of 130 and I think we will see the same from Broome in little more than a week's time. To be frank, he has everything going for him.
We should get off to a winning start to the day with this colt, who was second on his debut in a decent-looking maiden at Ascot. He travelled strongly there and was only denied late on by another smart newcomer in Expressionist. He figures to improve for that run and if he does he will be very hard to beat. He is trained by Roger Varian whose horses continue to be in good form and this will surely be another winner for him.
It’s hard to imagine a more taking debut than the one made by this filly at Chepstow. She managed to win from an uncompromising position three furlongs out, picking up in taking fashion to run through the line strongly and win by a neck. She has a very good pedigree with plenty of stamina on the dam's side and she may need further in time. But for now she looks capable of outrunning her odds and giving the likely favourite Shambolic a fight. She is definitely worth chancing here.
I was really impressed with this horse in the Sagaro at Ascot, where he appeared really suited to stepping up to two miles. With that under his belt he can now prove here that he is going to be a realistic threat to Stradivarius in the Ascot Gold Cup. He is tactically versatile and in a race where there is not a lot of pace Silvestre De Sousa is likely to take the lead which can only further enhance his chances. He is a seriously good stayer in the making and can take this on the way to Royal Ascot.

Sir Michael Stoute could not have his team in better form and the Brigadier Gerard Stakes can go to him for the second year on the bounce, after Poets Word won last year. A Group Three win in a fast time marked this horse out to be one to follow into his four-year-old season and his return in the Bet365 Mile was full of promise. That run will have put him right for this and I like the fact he is stepping up in trip. His future entries include the Coral-Eclipse and the Prince of Wales's Stakes. This race could well be a stepping stone to one of those.
