Aljuljalah does the business for Varian at Chelmsford

Roger Varian saw his lengthy drought at Chelmsford City come to an end after Aljuljalah halted her own barren run in the Greene King IPA Charlotte Fillies' Conditions Stakes.
Without a winner at the Essex track in 553 days, the Newmarket handler changed that after the four-year-old came from almost last to first to take the seven-furlong prize by three-quarters of a length and claim her first success since making a winning debut at on the Rowley Mile in September 2015.
Bruce Raymond, racing manager to owner Saleem Rashid, said of the 100-30 scorer: "She was a bit unlucky last time at Haydock, but she had plenty of work to do and finished fast last time.
"She must have fast ground or this surface. She needs to be ridden like that. If you put her in the race she doesn't finish it off. She lengthens rather than quickens.
"She has been Listed-placed and I guess we will now go back up to that level again next time."
Football agents Mark and Willie McKay made a swift stop at the track in between trying to get a deadline day transfer for West Ham striker Diafra Sakho completed to watch the John Butler-trained Siege Of Boston take the Old Golden Hen Handicap by a nose.
Willie McKay said of the 9-2 winner: "We were very confident as John Egan was riding and he is the luckiest guy in the world. John (Butler) was very confident coming into the race."
Paddy Bradley may expect to receive more rides from Saeed bin Suroor in the future after making his first one for the Godolphin trainer a winning one when steering Golden Goal (7-2) to a dead-heat with the Jim Crowley-ridden Almoreb (100-30) in the Old Speckled Hen Handicap.
Bradley said: "I thought I had put the race to bed, but Jim's horse came at me fast and late and I thought he had just mugged me to be honest, so I will take a dead-heat.
"It was a real surprise getting the ride and it just came out of the blue. To ride a winner for Saeed bin Suroor and Sheikh Mohammed is quite surreal."
Crowley said: "I had to ride him for luck and he quite enjoyed that. Another stride I was in front, but a dead-heat is better than being beaten a short head."
There was more joy for Bin Suroor after Mobbhij (11-8) made his debut a winning one when getting up by half a length in the Oktoberfest Here On 13th October Maiden Stakes, which was also the second leg of brace for jockey Oisin Murphy, who had earlier taken the East Coast IPA Novice Stakes on the Martyn Meade-trained Chilean (11-4).
RIDE OF THE DAY
Champion jockey Jim Crowley may be set to relinquish his crown in a few weeks time, but he again showed he is more than a match for anyone in a finish when getting Almoreb up on the line to snatch a dead-heat having looked booked for second.
QUOTE OF THE DAY
Transfer deadline day hit the Essex track, with football agent Willie McKay celebrating the success of Siege Of Boston on his way to taking West Ham United striker Diafra Sakho down to the London Stadium for talks.
He said: "I just hope all the West Ham fans with all the publicity that they have had backed the horse as it will pay for their season tickets."
PERFORMANCE OF THE DAY
While Mobbhij may have taken time to make it to a racecourse, the son of New Approach put in an impressive display when overcoming signs of greenness and making up stacks of ground late on to make his debut a winning one.
