Global Citizen will miss the Cheltenham Festival after being hit with a mammoth rise by the handicapper following his impressive Dovecote Novices' Hurdle win at Kempton on Saturday.

Trainer Ben Pauling had mooted the possibility of running in the County Hurdle before heading to Aintree, but that is now off the agenda.

Pauling said: "He has been given a mark of 149 and you aren't going to win a County Hurdle off that. It will be straight to Aintree for the Grade One (Top Novices' Hurdle) with him now."

Pauling took a handful of other possible Cheltenham contenders for a gallop at Kempton on Tuesday.

A Hare Breath, winner of a decent Sandown handicap in December, is heading for the County Hurdle.

"He worked very well," said the Gloucestershire handler.

"He has always been a very good work horse and you would expect to see that from him.

"We've saved him for the County Hurdle and I think he will run a huge race.

"It's the first time I will have been going to any championship races with him in the form I've had him in the early part of the season. He was very good that day at Sandown and I still think he wants good ground.

"Daryl (Jacob) rode him today. He moved well and he loved it. He is looking in good order."

Others heading to the Festival include Albert Bartlett hope Gowiththeflow, handicap chaser Markov and Le Breuil.

Pauling added: "Gowiththeflow is in very good order. He didn't run all that long ago but he is quite a stuffy horse so I gave him a decent piece.

"Markov will be touch and go if he gets into the Close Brothers off 138, which we have been aiming him at, but we might have a look at the Ultima on the first day with him.

"I fully expect Le Breuil to come on a bundle for that (gallop) as he always takes one very serious piece of work to get ready.

"He's a horse that takes his work very well so I've planned on giving him another piece next week as well.

"He is in the Coral and the Pertemps."
