Congratulations to Dan Overall who has been crowned the winner of the Tipstar: Search for a Broadcaster competition!
The 25-year-old was revealed as the winner live on The Friday Club, but the Tipstar judging panel endured a difficult decision when choosing Dan as the winner due to the standard of the finalists who all impressed when previewing a race each live on the show the week before.
In a competition where the opposition was fierce and of an exceptionally high standard, Dan edged out - in alphabetical order – Andrew Blair White, Grant Bradbury, Shamela Hanley, Ash Symonds and Michael Willoughby. His defeated rivals will all receive consolation prizes for their brilliant efforts.
Over 170 aspiring broadcasters sent in videos for both challenges of the competition before six finalists were chosen, and we would like to thank everyone who entered and participated in this year's competition.
Think you could make the grade as a Racing TV expert? Could you be the next Nick Luck, Lydia Hislop or Martin Dixon?
Now is your chance to showcase your in-depth formbook knowledge, your informed analysis and your sparkling personality to us!
Some famous faces have used our popular competition to make a name for themselves having sent in a video or appeared in one of our televised grand finals, and it’s a fantastic opportunity for someone looking to gain a breakthrough in the racing media.
This year, we have changed things slightly as the competition will not be a tipping challenge, but we will be looking for contestants to showcase their knowledge and presentation skills plus prove they have what it takes to appear live on Racing TV!
Tipstar: Search for a Broadcaster - now is your time to shine!
There will be two challenges to enter, and our judging panel will pick six finalists who will all preview a race each live on The Friday Club before a winner is decided.
Once crowned, the winner will receive a whole host of brilliant opportunities, including a full evening on Racing TV alongside Rishi Persad and Tom Stanley, a guest appearance on The Friday Club, a six-week vlog on Racing TV’s social media pages, a visit behind the scenes at Racing TV headquarters, a 12-month Racing TV subscription plus much more!
And remember, the earlier you send in your video for each challenge, the more likely your entry will appear on the channel and our social media platforms!
Challenge One
All you need to do is send in a preview video (ideally this should be landscape format), absolutely no longer than 60 seconds, for a race of your choice on Cheltenham’s Festival Trials Day on Saturday, January 29.
Tom Stanley shares some pointers as an example of what you could potentially include in your preview video
We want you to show off as much of your knowledge as possible, so you could discuss how you think the race will develop, highlight the notable stats and trends relating to the race, and discuss the positives, or negatives, for some of the key contenders.
Entries must be sent to
[email protected] or shared on Twitter using the hashtag #Tipstar2022 and tag in @RacingTV.
Deadline for Challenge One entries: Midday on Saturday, January 29.
Challenge Two
Here's an example of a review video for Challenge Two from Tom Stanley
Challenge Two will require you to send in a video (landscape format), absolutely no longer than 60 seconds, reviewing a race of your choice on Festival Trials Day.
Again, we will expect you to show off your insight and knowledge by discussing the winner of the race, plus anything else you think was noteworthy from the contest.
Entries must be sent to
[email protected] or shared on Twitter using the hashtag #Tipstar2022 and tag in @RacingTV.
Deadline for Challenge Two entries: Midnight on Wednesday, February 2.
