The National Heritage Centre is a five acre site in the heart of Newmarket and is built in the historic Rothschild Yard and palace that was originally built for Charles II, it is home to the new National Horseracing Museum, Packard Galleries of British Sporting Art and the flagship yard for Retraining of Racehorses. Here you will discover the history of horseracing and the role Newmarket played in the sport's development.
Learn what makes a racehorse a champion in our fascinating Thoroughbred Gallery where the latest interactive technologies are used to explore the elite thoroughbred. Explore the Palace, originally built for Charles II that is now home to the Packard Galleries, a beautiful collection of sporting art, including works by Stubbs and Munnings. Meet some old heroes in the Rothschild Yard where you can meet former racehorses who are now embarking on new careers and watch them being put through their paces in our morning RoR demo at 11.00am.
Your trip will not be complete without a go on our famous racehorse simulator - where you can experience the thrill of riding like a jockey down the Newmarket July Course.
