Weekender the only British contender as O’Brien dominates Irish Leger entries

Tue 11 Sep 2018

John Gosden’s Weekender is the sole British-trained possible in the Comer Group International Irish St Leger at the Curragh on Sunday.

The Ebor runner-up was a late withdrawal from the September Stakes at Kempton last weekend, won by stablemate Enable.

In a maximum field of 10, Aidan O’Brien is responsible for seven but several of those – Kew Gardens, Southern France, Nelson and The Pentagon – could line up at Doncaster 24 hours earlier.

Idaho, Cypress Creek and Flag Of Honour, put in as favourite by the bookmakers, are his other possibles.

Joseph O’Brien has left in Irish Derby winner Latrobe, but he is also expected to head to Doncaster.

Jim Bolger’s Twilight Payment is the only other possible.
