Moroder - sent all the way up to Cartmel from his stable near Stonehenge in a 300-mile journey - justified the long trip by finishing first-past-the-post in a valuable prize at the track on Bank Holiday Monday, but the clerk of scales made an objection after the race. Why? Moroder carried top-weight of 12st in this race, but on the way round on the final circuit the saddle slipped and dislodged the weight cloth, resulting in horse along with rider James Best weighing in light. Given Moroder did not carry the specified weight for the entirety of the race, the 11-year-old was disqualified in a real instance of misfortune for trainer Seamus Mullins and owner Mrs Ann Leftley.
