‘Very upsetting’ day for Tony Mullins as two horses killed in road accident

Tue 26 Mar 2019

Tragedy befell the Tony Mullins yard on Tuesday, with the trainer announcing two of his horses had been killed in a road accident on the way to the afternoon meeting at Clonmel.

The casualties were Do As You Wish and Uffizy, who had both been due to be in action but had been declared non runners earlier in the day, with the official reason for their withdrawal listed as transport difficulties.

County Kilkenny-based Mullins, who is the brother of champion trainer Willie Mullins, said no people had been hurt in the accident.

Posting on his Twitter feed, Mullins said: “Very upsetting day today for our yard but we will just have to dust ourselves off and start again. Horses killed in a road accident. No people injured.”

Later, explaining the accident, he tweeted: "Hard to believe how our day turned out. The box came away from the Jeep and hit the ditch."
