Galway Tuesday tips: 66-1 and 20-1 fancies on Day Two

I wrote this piece before Monday's Irish action and one hopes my selections ran well at least, given they were all big enough prices.

It is a similar enough narrative on day two. With slight concerns about the Ballydoyle form, I am tempted to watch Goodwood to see how the Irish get on as the Glorious Festival commences.

Keep tabs on the weather in Galway, with rain coming but probably not enough to hugely influence the terrain.

The same connections as the high-class The Big Dog, neither of the owners are from Galway, so it does not look a case of Peter Fahey running her here for the day out.

She finished third on her debut at the Festival last year – her only run in Galway. Useful in bumpers, she did well on her hurdling debut to chase home a Willie Mullins-trained winner. 

Her form leaves her short but she is well-bred, gets weight off everything and looks lively each-way at 20-1. Magico ran a shocker when I tipped him last time (friendless in the betting), while Milan Forth is hard to fancy and two of the others are 50s or bigger, so a place is far from out of the question at worst.

Curiously, given the big field, negatives abound – and then there is Ned In The Park at 16s. His win record is poor, but his first and only run chasing was a proper revelation at Wexford, when he seemed unfancied but finished second to a hot favourite.

He looks highly likely to be a better chaser, yet slots in here off the same rating off which he was placed on his last hurdles start.

A market move post-declarations, he is tipped in the hope he will go out to at least 5-1 on the day but, regardless, he is hard to get away from.

Ado McGuinness is a diamond in this race, the four-year-old has done hardly any racing; he only has had two runs for Ado and the performance he produced at the Curragh in a similar race (four of these in behind) suggested he will remain well ahead of the handicapper despite a 9lb rise.

Being by Mehmas and from the family of Teofilo, I can only assume that this filly is not the biggest given what she cost as a yearling, but both her starts were perfectly promising.

I particularly liked how she stayed on at the Curragh despite running keenly. A bit of improvement with racing gives her a realistic place chance and she is 66-1, far bigger than others in the race who have achieved little or no more.

What a bet at 20-1. His only other visit to Galway for this yard was when second to the wildly progressive Ribee off 76 last year.

He was very eye-catching on his return from a break off 71 at Killarney, yet the handicapper’s surprising decision to drop him 1lb makes him eligible for this grade for the first time in his life. Trained by Ross O’Sullivan, there are no end of positives.
