4.20 Redcar: Barleybrown
Ruth Carr has had a good time of things this month and had a couple of handicap winners last weekend, so her runners clearly warrant respect at present.
She did well with Barleybrown last season - winning four races after getting the gelding from Eve Johnson Houghton - and Carr seems to have ironed out his temperament issues.
The five-year-old finished last on his reappearance at Newcastle but met trouble in running and was only beaten 4¼ lengths. In any case, he can reasonably be expected to improve for that comeback after a five-month break.
His wins last season came on the all-weather but he won on turf for his previous trainer and I expect a decent run.
5.20 Leicester: Shark Two One
Has been put in at a big price but could well be worth risking in this big-field basement level handicap. He has a course and distance win on his CV and has run some of his better races at Leicester.
Shark Two One is 11lb lower than for that success in October and may not be as good, but he did not run at all badly when third off a 1lb higher than Tuesday on his penultimate start and should be able to lead here.
The booking of 7lb claimer Jack Dace might help as the rider is doing well this season, with plenty of trainers putting him up.
5.25 Redcar: Four Adaay
I was quite surprised when glancing through Four Adaay’s past form that he has not previously been ridden by Patrick Millman in one of these amateur riders’ handicaps as he looks an ideal type for such a race.
Millman is one of the most experienced and best riders in this race and Four Adaay looks as though he will appreciate the six furlongs here.
The seven-year-old might need this trip as things look to have been too quick for him over five furlongs on his past two starts.
He is 5lb below his last winning mark and has plenty more going for him on this occasion, with a middle draw and ground also in his favour.
