Tuesday tips: Dave Nevison's three best bets at Catterick

Fern O’Brien rode a good race on Stoner’s Choice in a good handicap at Kempton at the weekend and her 7lb claim in this Female Jockeys' Handicap Hurdle is very handy. 

It could be especially so on this horse that she almost certainly knows, as Quian was trained by her father until recently. 

The move from Fergal O’Brien’s yard and a wind operation seems to have been a positive for Quian in two runs so far for his new yard, and the nine-year-old won over this course and distance off a lowly rating of 84 last time out. 

He is 5lb higher on Tuesday (before the rider’s claim) but is still way lower than marks he has run well off in the not too distant past. He looks a fair bet to follow up.

Has been well supported on his each of his starts this season, but things certainly haven’t gone right for his backers. 

He lost his action when going well last time out, and was pulled up, and I am happy to put a line through that effort. 

The handicapper has dropped him a pound, perhaps out of sympathy, and he has finished runner-up on a couple of occasions this season plus has run well over this course and distance in the past. 

He's a front-runner, which suits Catterick, and he will win a race off this mark when he produces a solid round of jumping.

This mare started life as a handicapper off the same mark that she is running off here, but it took a long time, and a steep decline in her rating, before she hit form. 

She first won off a mark of 76 but has developed into a bit of a winning machine, over fences and hurdles, that suggests a mark of 102 doesn’t look out of reach here. 

She has won under each code this month and last time out, when back over hurdles, she won by 27 lengths, so she simply has to run under a penalty as the handicapper is set to react punitively. 

Joe Williamson has been on board for all four of Asa’s wins and she will be favourite to go in again at Catterick.
