Our betting expert is aiming to boost punting funds ahead of the weekend with his three selections on Friday.
Has been beaten narrowly off this mark the last twice and is slightly forced to run here as it will get more difficult for him from next week, but he does look to have found the right race and I will be surprised if he cannot defy top weight.
He is a couple of pounds above the ceiling of this handicap and is carrying 12 stone but is conceding weight to a large number of horses who don’t have a huge amount of ability and I am not worried about the numerical opposition.
Indeed, it may help him by ensuring a strong pace and hopefully he should be able to pick them off between the last two flights and last home this time.
This selection is a maiden over fences but has generally run with credit in very competitive chases so far and this looks a much less exacting test than the races he has been running in.
He ran well in a competitive novice at this track last season, so has shown he can navigate the testing railway fences OK, and last time out he jumped well under a forceful ride over the stiff fences at Wincanton.
He has been raised a pound for that effort but that is more than offset by the 5lb his jockey, Angus Cheleda, claims off him as the young rider is on fire and cannot stop riding winners, including for Paul Nicholls.
Venetia Williams is excellent at running up a quick sequence with well-handicapped horses who appear to show form out of nowhere.
This horse was very impressive at Wetherby and drew clear up the punishing home straight there to score easily by seven lengths.
This is a really well-contested novices event, but a 7lb penalty keeps him down the bottom of the weights and he should be able to follow up quickly.Check out the Racing TV large screen app on Amazon Fire TV, Android TV and Apple TV devices, so you can enjoy the action on your TV screen!
