Too Darn Hot remains on track for 2000 Guineas, says John Gosden

John Gosden is confident the setback which prevented Too Darn Hot from running in the Greenham Stakes will not keep him out of the Qipco 2000 Guineas.

The unbeaten colt is currently favourite for the Guineas and the Derby after a startling juvenile year, but on Thursday some heat was found in a splint bone.

Too Darn Hot was an impressive winner of the Dewhurst last season

Gosden did not want to take any chances in running at Newbury, but the son of Dubawi remains on course for the colts’ Classic at Newmarket on May 4.

“He got some heat in a splint bone and it is just a matter of letting the whole thing settle and cool out and we will be on the road again,” said Gosden.

“It wouldn’t have been wise to run a horse like that, that’s for sure. You ice it and all that sort of thing, and poultice and quietly let it settle down and move forward.

“You get a lot of them, it is not an unusual thing and we see plenty of them every year.

“The plan still is to go Newmarket and there is no reason to change that at the moment.”
