What a wonderful week of sport we have enjoyed. From Punchestown to Newmarket. From Anfield to Amsterdam.
We’ve hardly been able to drawn breath over the past few days and this month revs up as it moves forward in racing terms.
Chester has thrown a few surprises into the Epsom picture and there will be more of the same at York next week from the Dante meeting. Too Darn Hot versus Japan anyone?
Four selections from three tracks today, starting with:
I love this horse. Last year didn’t go to plan after his Sandown win but there were excuses, certainly with the draw and ground in the Lockinge at Newbury.
We then didn’t see him until Champions Day where he was disappointing.
He was also below his best at Lingfield, when keen, in November but he could have a very good year as there was no fluke about his early-season form this time last term.
The ground will suit and hopefully he gets back on track.
He would not be the most exciting prospect lining up given he has tried to win this twice and failed each time, but he was placed on both occasions.
He’s much lower in the ratings this time around, has a lovely draw and every right to hit the frame again.
I get why he’s the price he is given he’s exposed in comparison to some but I’d rate him a better chance than the 16-1 on offer, particularly with conditions in his favour.
Long may this price last. She’s drawn away from the pace but she’s usually ridden with restraint, so will have options and hopefully the race does not develop away from her.
I was taken with her course and distance success last year but she was disappointing on the Rowley Mile subsequently.
She may need the run and want better ground but I’m certain she has scope off this mark.
Has won at Redcar either side of a break and I thought he was better value than the nose winning distance last time.
He does not do a great deal in front and that masks his superiority, so despite a 3lb rise for that win he should have more to offer, particularly having now had a run.
Easing ground is not a problem and he will get a nice sit just off them from stall 1.
