I've had involvement in a horse running in the race for a small yard and probably never envisaged one trainer having at least two-thirds of the runners in Limerick's feature on Sunday, the JT McNamara Munster National (4.15).
Gordon Elliott should pick up some prize-money, potentially all of it! Bizarrely, it might make it a much more attractive race for a bet at least.
1.35 Leopardstown: Pimstrel
The key to this horse is soft ground. She had that at Galway but went hard after missing the break, still having them all under pressure turning in. Sean Bowen's claim means she has no weight and she's becoming seriously well-handicapped.
2.10 Leopardstown: Snapraeterea
Cairo is a terrible price here at odds-on because, while he has handled soft, this is proper heavy and he's by Quality Road, while he's also taking on very smart older horses. He's making it a hugely appealing race for a bet and Snapraeterea is a massive player on his win at Tipperary. Frazil is a fascinating runner but is said to prefer better ground.
Have a day at the races on us. Click here for more details. 2.45 Leopardstown: Timeless Soul
This is a fascinating race and not easily solved. Timeless Soul's form had rather tailed off since coming to Ireland but she was a revelation at Tipperary and it seems she may need this sort of ground ideally. Off the same mark under an excellent 7lb claimer, she appeals plenty.
3.40 Limerick: Positive Thinker
This horse is very hard to oppose. He was touched off on his last visit here and he ploughed through the mud in winning over fences at Gowran last time. That was off a higher mark and he might be a better chaser, but he should go close.
4.15 Limerick: Frontal Assault
galway
15:00 Galway - Tuesday October 4
The less said about the Galway race this horse ran in last time the better. On paper, he disappointed but he should come on plenty. He was second in the Irish National two seasons ago and is apparently the best of the Elliott runners, yet he's an each-way price and remember he was hammered in the market around this time last year in the Troytown.
4.50 Limerick: All Those Years
It's always hard to second-guess these connections and All Those Years has on paper been struggling but he relishes bad ground and Charles Byrnes is in excellent form. He ran in a Listed Race at Killarney last time and he was far from out of it for the money when he fell, so there are positives in a tricky race.
5.25 Limerick: Cool Survivor
I get the feeling the bookmakers will favour Quilixious here as a former Triumph Hurdle winner but Cool Survivor has more of a chasing pedigree and he was very smart on his day last season. Moreover, returning on this ground after clearly having problems demands a great deal of the De Bromhead runner fitness-wise.
