Sharjah and Real Steel in line for Leopardstown rematch

Tue 30 Jan 2018

Sharjah and Real Steel, who crashed out at the final flight when battling for the lead at Leopardstown last month, could meet again again in the Deloitte Novice Hurdle at the Dublin course on Sunday.

An eventful race for the Future Champions Novice Hurdle was eventually won by Whiskey Sour.

All three horses are trained by Willie Mullins, who also has Duc Des Genievres among 15 left in the Grade One contest at the confirmation stage.

Samcro catches the eye but Gordon Elliott's exciting prospect has two other alternative engagements at the two-day meeting.

Elliott has also left in Hardline, who was a distant third to Whiskey Sour over Christmas.

Others in the mix include Mags Mullins' Debuchet and Henry de Bromhead's duo of Paloma Blue and Mind's Eye.

Gavin Cromwell's Espoir D'Allen has looked a class act in winning all his four starts over the smaller obstacles and faces a maximum of just seven rivals in the Tattersalls Ireland Spring Juvenile Hurdle.

The Elliott team has two possibles in Farclas and Mitchouka, while Mullins is also doubly represented with Mr Adjudicator and Stormy Ireland.

Elliott's three-time Cheltenham Festival winner Cause Of Causes heads 39 possibles for the Chanelle Pharma Handicap Chase and the Warren Greatrex-trained Shantou Bob has top weight of the 30 entries for the William Fry Handicap Hurdle.
