Sean Quinlan banned for 12 days after taking wrong course

Sean Quinlan was banned for 12 days by the Sedgefield stewards after they found the rider had taken the wrong course in the Sedgefielders Racing App Durham National Handicap Chase.

Riding Red Giant for Jennie Candlish, Quinlan was in front heading to the second last fence on the final circuit in the three-mile-five-furlong contest.

However, that fence had been omitted on the second of three circuits due to a faller on the first lap of the track, but it was reinstated on the final pass.

Quinlan clearly did not know the fence needed to be jumped and steered around the obstacle, pulling his mount up once he realised the mistake.

The stewards looked into the incident and decided Quinlan had taken the wrong course, banning him from November 4-15 inclusive.
