Scott considers supplementing Hawkeye for Irish Champion

George Scott believes Wimbledon Hawkeye will be at the “peak of his powers” from now until the end of the season as he prepares to shoot for the stars in the Irish Champion Stakes at Leopardstown.
The four-year-old Kameko colt landed the Group Three Prix Gontaut-Biron at Deauville on Saturday on only his second start for Scott having been transferred from James Owen in early July by new owners Victorious Forever.
Now Scott is eyeing a place at the very top table at Leopardstown in September, with a horse who he feels could be poised to really make a mark from now until the end of the campaign.
“He will need supplementing but we are going to aim towards the Irish Champion with him,” said Scott. ” I would love to see him dip his toe now in a Group One and I think he will love the track.
“It is a track where it pays to have a good position which I think he could find himself in and I feel like he could be at the peak of his powers in the next few months as a four-year-old, he’s clearly thriving. It will be fair to the horse to give him a crack in a race like that.”
Supplementing the colt will not be cheap at €75,000 but the flip side of the extra cost will be a sight of the likely make-up of a contest that Scott feels would suit his horse down to the ground.
“We will look at the race and see what shape it is taking nearer the time but we have the luxury of leaving it until five or six days before so we will see how everyone is shuffling the pack, especially Aidan (O’Brien),” said Scott.
“If it looks an open race then we will take our chance and if it looks very deep  then we will go to France for the (Group Three) Prix du Prince d’Orange (at ParisLongchamp on September 13) in preparation for going back there on Arc weekend.”
