Nic Doggett has several early fancies for the weekend action at Newmarket and York, live on Racing TV, as well as at Chepstow where a 40-1 chance is recommended. Beylerbeyi heads the market for the Club Godolphin Cesarewitch Handicap (3.40) and looks sure to run well in his title defence, but I don't think that 8-1 chance
KIRCHNER will be too far away from the top of the betting come 3.40pm on Saturday, with Rossa Ryan (25% strike-rate for the yard) a positive early jockey booking.
The James Owen-trained grey ran a fine race when only giving best to one who had the stands rail to run against in the Northumberland Plate, and then showed his liking for quick ground and a stiff finish when winning easily at Ascot on his next start.
The form of his York sixth – where he was ridden too conservatively in a race that didn't get to the bottom of him – has been franked by those who finished around him, and he's a leading contender here from the same mark as he bids to follow in the footsteps of fellow four-year-old winners Withhold (2017), Sweet Selection (2016) and Scatter Dice (2013).
Kirchner (red silks, grey horse) caught the eye in defeat behind Small Fry at York Lead Artist had three starts in Pattern company between winning a York novice and this race in 2024, but Portcullis – who won this year's race on the Knavesmire but hasn't been seen since - would still be of interest if upped in grade in the Too Darn Hot Darley Stakes (1.15), especially given his stable's record with three-year-olds in this Group Three.
However, he has several entries this week and connections have spoken of small steps, so I'm more interested in his year-older stablemate NAHRAAN on this occasion.
Winner of his first three starts last season, he wasn't beaten far (receiving weight) behind Japanese superstar Croix Du Nord and dual Arc winner Daryz in a Longchamp Group Three on his final start.
He hasn't been able to add to his tally in three runs this year, but settled better for a more positive ride when third at Sandown last time where the first three pulled well clear of the rest.
With the step back up in trip in his favour, this Champion Stakes entry is the best bet at a general 5-1 (6-1 in a place).

Over at York, Binhareer is likely to be popular as he bids to emulate 2019/20 winner Gulliver with back-to-back wins in the Sky Bet Sprint Trophy Handicap (3.17), but I think there's some value to be had with the three-year-old ARDISIA who caught my eye in defeat in the Gold Cup at Ayr last time out.
From a middle draw, jockey Warren Fentiman decided to go to the far side where the bigger group of runners raced. That probably wasn't a bad move, as he travelled well but it was just circumstance that he met trouble from over two furlongs out; the first two had skipped clear by the time the gaps opened up.
His wins have come on speed-favouring tracks, often with a little bit of cut in the ground, so any rain that falls this week won't be a concern, and he's worth backing each-way at 25s.
Ardisia (blue colours) was an eye-catching loser in the Ladbrokes Ayr Gold Cup Despite being ten years old, WASHINGTON has only tried two and a half miles twice in his career, and on the face of it being pulled up on each occasion wouldn't offer much hope to his supporters in Saturday's Wasdell Group Silver Trophy Handicap Hurdle (4.02) at Chepstow.
However, that doesn't tell the full story, as he didn't face a first-time hood on the first occasion at Newbury, and then made several mistakes (and returned with a cut leg) on his chasing debut on the second attempt.
He has an excellent record fresh, including two wins at this meeting, and returns to action from a mark 4 lb lower than his last success. At a best-priced 40-1 (33-1 general), he's certainly overpriced.
