The daughter of Lope De Vega was introduced at 33-1 for the Epsom Classic – which Beckett won with Look Here in 2008 and Talent in 2013 – by Paddy Power and William Hill, after taking the Bob McCreery Memorial EBF Quidhampton Maiden Fillies’ Stakes by three-quarters of a length.
Beckett said of the 6-1 winner: “She showed up well at home and it wasn’t a surprise. We will see how we go, but I wouldn’t be surprised if we put a rug on her for the year.
“Her sister (Isabel De Urbina) progressed with age and time and I hope this one will, too.
“We will see how we are working in the spring – her sister was second in the Pretty Polly and we might be able to take in an Oaks trial. She has a pedigree for it.”
Oisin Murphy celebrated his 23rd birthday in style after riding a double at the Wiltshire track, highlighted by the victory of Poet’s Vanity in the European Bloodstock News EBF “Lochsong” Fillies Handicap.
Winning trainer Andrew Balding said of the 7-2 shot: “She had some high-class two-year-old form and pretty good three-year-old form, but she is just a little bit hit and miss this year.
“We were fairly confident coming into this that if she didn’t mess around in the stalls we would be going close.”
The Martyn Meade-trained Headland (13-2) got the ball rolling for Murphy when opening his account in the Irish Yearling Sales Nursery Handicap.
Hector Crouch is making the most of the opportunities handed to him by Saeed bin Suroor and the 22-year-old partnered his sixth winner for the Newmarket handler this year when scoring aboard Global Hero in division two of the Gift Of Sight Appeal EBF Novice Stakes.
Crouch said: “Once in the clear he quickened up well. He is still very babyish and they said he would probably need the run.
“He (Bin Suroor) has been putting me on some nice horses and things are going well and they are winning.”
Youth could be replaced with decidedly more experience the next time Fortune And Glory (7-2) takes the track following his length-and-a-half triumph under a cool William Carver ride in the Shadwell Stud Racing Excellence Apprentice Stakes.
Trainer Joe Tuite said: “He is in the Leger Legends race at Doncaster next week and Ted Durcan has been texting me already!”
Andrea Atzeni was another to land a double, taking the feature Group Three Shadwell Stud Dick Poole Fillies’ Stakes aboard the Roger Varian-trained Yourtimeisnow (4-1) and division one of the seven-furlong novice contest on Cap Francais (8-13) for Ed Walker.
