Richard Johnson has been taken to Exeter General Hospital with a suspected broken arm following a fall at Exeter on Tuesday.

The four-time champion jump jockey took a nasty tumble when he was unseated from Westend Story who blundered badly at the sixth fence in the Dare To Dream Chase. Johnson also appeared to receive a kick from the eventual runner-up, Fox Pro, on landing.

It took at least a minute for Johnson to get to his feet, but the 42-year-old eventually walked into the ambulance holding his right arm in discomfort.

He was treated by doctors at the track before being taken to hospital for further assessment.

“He’s gone to Exeter hospital for further assessment, but he walked into the ambulance and he has been talking,” said clerk of the course Daniel Cooper.

Johnson trailed Brian Hughes by three winners in the title battle at the start of racing on Tuesday and was due to have three more rides. The Exeter meeting went ahead after three inspections.

He will face losing the jockeys' title if the injury is confirmed plus could also be ruled out of the Cheltenham Festival.

Johnson has already received plenty of well-wishes on social media, including from Nicky Henderson who tweeted "fingers crossed for the Champ."
